We are a highly motivated team; passionate about Additive Manufacturing (AM) and its contribution to Airbus NexGen aircraft as a High Performance and Sustainable Technology.
In Filton, we have Powder Bed Fusion and Direct Energy Deposition machines and experience across Design and Manufacturing Engineering and Material Science - all the ingredients needed for true co-Design for Additive Manufacturing required to meet the needs for current and future aircraft platforms.
Our ambition is to disrupt the market with Optimization Driven Design and Advanced Machine Control in collaboration with strategic partners and academia.
What you will be doing
You will Design and Manufacture metallics parts using AM technology right here in Filton, with the opportunity to develop co-Design for Additive manufacturing skills as part of the Filton team and wider Airbus AM community.
In the past our interns have developed novel design methodologies, new AM materials, and designed and manufactured highly optimised structural and system parts such as hydrogen fuel cell manifolds!
The tasks will be varied and require you to use different skills (technical, project management, communication etc.) in order to complete them successfully.
You will initiate and support activities within the AM department which may include:
Design, development, and delivery of metallic AM components and drawings for projects:
Learning, developing, and applying AM design rules, methods, and tools;
Using Airbus tools such Catia and Hyperworks to produce optimisation driven designs;
Develop skills in co-design for AM by working with the Filton team and wider Airbus AM community;
Get hands-on with our metallic AM machines in order to produce parts for projects:
Learn how to run the end-to-end process yourself, including the creation of AM build files, running builds, post processing, and testing of parts.
Projects you may work on include:
Development and production of Structural Components and Systems Equipment for:
Series aircraft applications, and potentially applications across the rest of Airbus Group;
A variety of strategic Airbus projects aimed at developing flight test demonstrators for (e.g.) future wing designs, and hydrogen powered aircraft (ZEROe);
Developments of AM materials, processes, and design methods;
An optional design challenge - create your own small metallic design that demonstrates everything you’ve learned and print it yourself.
