About the role

Our Assistant Clinical Psychologists, support the Clinical Psychologist in the team and hold a small caseload of young people and families across Gwent, providing direct therapeutic work as well as specialist assessments.

The Assistant Clinical Psychologist will also join the Clinical Psychologist in the delivery of training and sharing good practice.

The post will be supervised by the Clinical Psychologist, and we will support you to access additional training relevant to the role.

The position is a challenging and exciting role, which offers the opportunity for development in a range of skills and competencies, which includes access to Aneurin Bevan Health Board and Child and Family Psychology and therapies department.

About the service

Action for Children's Gwent Family Intervention Team is a targeted early intervention therapeutic service for children, young people and their families aged 3-16 delivering across Caerphilly. Our work is underpinned by psychological therapies including attachment, systemic psychotherapy, and behavioural approaches.

Our aim is to reduce the development of more entrenched mental health issues by delivering high quality therapeutic family support which can involve one to one support with parent and child, as well as whole family sessions.

The service offers needs-led interventions that are focused on each family being regarded as unique using formulation and curiosity approaches to help build an understanding of the context that the family live in. We aim to empower families to help support relationships, improve communication patterns, build on resilience, and explore healthy ways to communicate feelings and emotions.

How you'll help to create brighter futures

  • Delivering evidence-based individual interventions with the aim of alleviating psychological distress and promoting psychological wellbeing.
  • Contributing to multidisciplinary team discussions about young person's emotional wellbeing, risk, and development of psychological formulations
  • Attending and contributing to weekly team meetings and case discussions
  • Participating in clinically relevant research, service evaluation and audit projects and provide information regarding clinically effective interventions by competently undertaking literature reviews and internet and library facilities
  • Maintaining the clinical outcomes database and supporting the Clinical psychologist as required.

Let's talk about you

  • Undergraduate degree in Psychology accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS)
  • Knowledge of Psychological theories and practices
  • Excellent writing, communication and organization skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Adaptable and proactive in professional development
