As a result of strong business growth, industry-leading product development in the biosensor business and a long-term commitment to high volume manufacturing in our Witney Centre of Excellence, we have an exciting opportunity for someone to join the Operations Engineering team.

The role

The role of the Associate Engineer will focus around project engineering, whilst also providing support and assistance with varying engineering activities, including managing process equipment validations, collaborating with internal engineering functions and working closely with Operations and maintenance personnel ensuring equipment is optimised and suitable to produce medical devices.

Continuous Improvement is an important part of our site’s culture and as such, you will be heavily involved in proposing and contributing to initiatives and projects that improve our operations. You will also be able to offer a flexible approach to work to provide assistance with the wider Engineering projects as and when required. At Abbott, you can shape your career whilst helping to shape the future of healthcare.

You will need to have completed a recognised Engineering apprenticeship or have a higher education qualification (such as a HNC, HND or degree) in a related subject. Some software experience (C# preferred for application development), CAD (machine design, assembly design, virtual engineering), and an interest in engineering data is preferred. You will be PC literate, and ideally offer experience of managing projects either through industry experience or academic studies.

As we operate in a highly-regulated industry, you must be able to demonstrate the ability to follow procedures and create accurate documents and records of your work. Responsible for managing the Maximo maintenance management system, you will work closely with the Facilities Project Engineers and wider Facilties teams in the timely and effective scheduling of maintenance activities and provision of general support activities.

Whether you are monitoring and reporting on equipment performance, coordinating Facilities Engineering activities, scheduling preventative maintenance timetables, or allocating resource to priority reactive tasks, you will engage and collaborate with the Facilities team to provide a seamless service to our wider business at Witney.

You will look to improve the usage of Maximo across the scope of the system, thus supporting improvements in efficiency, consistency and accuracy across engineering operations. This role is the first point of contact for internal customers at Witney, and therefore a great opportunity to represent a function, and build wider business networks.

About you

To be successful, you will need to have completed a recognised Engineering apprenticeship or have a higher education qualification (such as a HNC, HND or degree) in a related subject. Previous experience in a manufacturing or facilities environment is preferred but not essential. You will however be confident at using the MS Office suite, with the ability to prepare reports and similar documentation.

Continuous Improvement is an important part of our site’s culture, so you will also have the opportunity to propose or contribute to initiatives and projects that improve our operations. You will also need to be able to demonstrate a track record of accomplishing your objectives, working proactively, and managing your own time effectively.

You will be organised by nature, and competent in planning work schedules to best meet varying business demands. You will be able to work independently whilst also adept at interacting or collaborating with various colleagues and contacts as required.

You will be asked to share proof of this prior to receiving any offer of employment. W would like to make you aware that if you are made an offer of employment with Abbott you will need to remain on your current visa / permit.

If for any reason your visa status changes, we will be unable to offer you sponsorship in the future. In addition, the Company would not fund any subsequent non sponsored visa applications - you will be solely responsible for paying and maintaining your own right to work in the UK.
