Since 1861, when Royal London was founded in a London coffee shop, plenty has changed (although the popularity of coffee shops remains undiminished). First we were a friendly society then a mutual insurance company. We started out by helping people to avoid the stigma of a pauper's grave. We have been helping people to help themselves ever since.
