Tell us a little about yourself

  • Before joining Thurn Partners, I studied Physical and Human Geography at the University of Bristol.
  • Before starting university, I lived in Australia for a year. Spending most of my time living in Melbourne, I also travelled down the East Coast and completed 88 days of farmwork.
  • After graduating from Bristol, I travelled to Southeast Asia for 10 weeks and then moved to South London with my two good friends from university.

What attracted you to Thurn Partners?

  • One of the first things that attracted me to Thurn Partners as a company, is that from the beginning, it was made clear that there was a real ladder of progression for a graduate.
  • After graduating, I found that there were few roles available that allowed me to enter the finance sector. Thurn Partners focused more on my ability as an individual to communicate and have a strong work ethic, which I found encouraging.
  • Throughout the interview process and starting the role, Thurn Partners gives you the freedom to create your own content and speak to a range of people. This was important to me, as I know I learn quicker in an environment where I can learn independently and think creatively.

What is your role at Thurn Partners?

  • As a Lead Search Consultant at Thurn Partners, I currently head up our commodities business across North America and Europe, specialising in Power, Natural Gas and Crude Oil.
  • As well as sourcing high-calibre candidates, I create custom-made content to engage these individuals, which can also include cold calling.
  • I regularly attend in-person meetings with candidates, having the opportunity to connect face-to-face and build rapport.
  • The remainder of my role involves working closely with clients, whether it's meeting with them to understand their needs or providing feedback on the introductions we’ve arranged.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

  • I enjoy being able to communicate with a range of different people daily, as it means you are constantly expanding your professional network.
  • At Thurn Partners, there is a clear framework to follow in order to be promoted. Laying the foundation for you to learn the knowledge and skills necessary for continued success through their grad program, Thurn Partners create a supportive environment for self-development.
  • Work socials are a regular occurrence at Thurn Partners, as each member of the team is sociable and easy to get along with, making it a positive place to work.

What would be your biggest piece of advice for someone considering joining?

  • I would say to always ask questions, as no question is a bad question.
  • Remember that you earnt your place here, so be confident in your ability.
  • Before beginning your career at Thurn Partners, you may know very little about the finance sector (like myself), however, if you remain open-minded, you will pick things up a lot quicker.
