The great part of being an Intern at Expedia Group is how quickly they get to onboard and start making an impact in their teams, and making an impact on travel. While taking on a travel-tech project is great in itself, alongside this work our Interns get to gain crucial professional and technical skills which build the foundation for a successful career. We caught up with some of our Interns in the London office to discover the key skills they’ve developed so far, and what they’ve enjoyed about being on the Intern Program.

The Intern Program

Interns at Expedia Group join an inclusive community, while gaining inside experience of how our company operates. Those who part of the program get to network with a wide variety of colleagues, speak directly with our senior leaders, present their project work to stakeholders, and attend impactful learning workshops.

Jemma Green, Commercial Intern, London, UK

Skills developed:

Partner management, prioritisation, flexibility, negotiation, relationship management.

Jemma
As a Commercial Intern at Expedia Group, I have been developing my professional growth and skills by gaining hands on experience. Working on meaningful projects and managing my own portfolio of partners has provided invaluable skill development opportunities, including prioritization, flexibility, negotiation, and relationship building. Most importantly, the focus on learning at Expedia Group has been a key enabler of growth and development. For example, my mentor has a wealth of advice and is always willing to help support me in learning new skills. Additionally, networking with experienced colleagues has increased my knowledge and allowed opportunities to shadow key business interactions.

My internship journey at Expedia Group so far has been a transformative experience. I am continuously developing my professional growth and skills through a multifaced approach. By collaborating and communicating effectively with colleagues from various departments, I am gaining diverse perspectives and learning to work cohesively in a team, inevitably enhancing my professional growth. Seeking advice and mentorship from team members has been instrumental in my development, providing me with confidence, guidance and valuable industry insights. Working on different projects within the Strategic Partnerships and Affiliates marketing team, I am refining my time management skills by handling responsibilities and consistently meeting deadlines with efficiency. Additionally, by embracing a proactive mindset, I take the initiative in projects, which not only contributes to my team’s success but also supports me to further hone my professional skills.

By working in a commercial team, I gain hands on experience with lots of sectors within EG. This means I can develop my adaptability and communication skills, interacting with lots of different teams from which I can learn from. By shadowing graduates, my navigator and other market managers in my UK team I get to see exemplary demonstrations of how to talk to partners, how to use transferrable skills and how to present myself. By engaging with other interns and market managers across divisions I am able to get the most of out my internship whilst developing and curating my professional skills in a supportive and fun environment!

Isabelle Cryan, Marketing Intern, London, UK

Skills developed:

Project management, presenting, time management, accountability, networking.

Isabelle intern
Being given an individual intern project to complete throughout my ten weeks at Expedia Group has allowed me to build on, and develop, my project management skills since it has forced me to manage timelines, set deadlines, co-ordinate presentations to keep my team updated and most importantly, take accountability to ensure that my work is being produced to the highest standard. Being an intern has certainly heightened my career aspirations and broadened my network. Through attending intern-events, webinars, and shadowing multiple employees in different divisions within the marketing sector, I’ve built professional connections and engaged with like-minded individuals who all share similar passions and interest to me.
