Starting a career at Lloyd’s: application hints and tips

Early-careers-application

When applying to our schemes, there are different stages you will have to go through in the process. To help you along the way, we’ve provided some top tips for each stage.

1. Getting your application in

The first stage in the application process will be submitting an initial online application.

Top tip:

  • Review - review and double-check your application to spot any mistakes before you submit it.

2. Completing an online assessment

After your initial application, the next stage of our process is an online assessment which will include a series of questions for you to answer. This assesses various behavioural skills such as how you overcome challenges or make decisions.

Top tips:

  • Answer honestly – make sure to answer the question honestly, rather than what you think the answer should be. This helps us get a clear picture of who you are and what you could bring to our industry.
  • Re-read the question – it’s worth double checking to make sure you’ve understood the question properly.

3. Taking part in a video interview

The next stage of the process is to conduct a video interview, which involves answering a series of questions about yourself.

Top tips:

  • Focus on your strengths – at Lloyd’s we use a ‘strengths-based’ approach (more info on this below), so be sure to think about your motivations, goals and interests beforehand.
  • Take your time – there’s no hurry, so you can always take a moment to think about your answer and how you might structure it.
  • Do your research – before you apply, be sure to read about Lloyd’s, what our market does and any recent announcements. You don’t have to know everything, but it might help inform your answers!
  • Ensure you have a quiet workspace - however, recruiters know that you’re human and life happens. If you do not have access to a private space, please let the team know.

4. Joining one of our assessment days

Assessment centres usually take place across a half-day and are comprised of three different activities: a group exercise, a one-to-one interview and an analysis activity.

Top tips:

  • Have a go at everything – it's important you try your best at each activity, even if it’s new to you, so you can go away feeling proud of yourself.
  • Collaborate, don’t compete – we're looking for people who can work well with others, not just demonstrate their own contribution.
  • Be yourself – again, we're looking for authentic candidates; everyone has something to bring. Show us who you are and why you should work at Lloyd’s.
  • Be inquisitive – ask questions and have a few up your sleeve for the end of the interview. It’s a great chance to get the information you want from us, too.

Diversity and Inclusion is very important to us at Lloyd’s. If you need reasonable adjustments throughout the recruitment process, please let the Early Careers team know.
