What Does the Application Process Look Like at Standard Chartered?

Book open Reading time: 3 mins

We understand that making an application for an internship or a graduate job is a time-consuming process, which takes thought and consideration, and sometimes it’s not entirely clear. So before you apply to one of Standard Chartered’s roles, we wanted to share what the application journey looks like so you know what to expect at every step of the way.

First stop, send us your application

The process on our website is straightforward with clear instructions every step of the way, so making the decision to apply is the hard bit done! To make it as easy as possible, try and complete our application form on a desktop or a laptop – it can be a bit tricky on a phone. Have your CV ready to upload before you start. If you’ve got this ready to go then the whole process shouldn’t take more than about 15 minutes.

Online assessments

Once your application has been sent across to us, for most of our early careers roles, we will ask you to complete some online assessments to understand if your skills are right for the role you’ve applied for. Many of our candidates enjoy doing these, so they shouldn’t be too stressful! You’ll receive all the information you need to complete the assessments by email, including how long you have to submit them.

To make sure you perform your best, ensure you set aside some time to complete the assessments when you won’t be disturbed, and your internet connection is reliable. Some assessments give you the opportunity to take a practice test, which we would highly recommend to help to get used to the format. But don’t forget – these assessments are not designed to catch you out!

Behavioural assessment

Once we’ve reviewed your online assessments, if you’ve been successful, you’ll be asked to complete a behavioural assessment. Again, this is not meant to catch you out – it’s simply to see if your values align with the values of Standard Chartered. All the instructions you need to take this assessment will be emailed to you when you are invited to participate, and it takes no more than 20 minutes.

Video interview

For some roles, we’ll then ask you to complete a short video interview, which will help us understand your skills, background and motivations a little better. To prepare for this, make sure you can talk confidently about what’s on your CV and have a think about all the reasons you applied for this particular role. But mostly – be yourself! We want to get to know you.

Assessment Centre

The final stage of the application process is an assessment centre, which you will be invited to attend alongside other candidates. This is your chance to showcase your skills, teamwork abilities, and positive attitude. You’ll be provided with plenty of information beforehand, so make sure you prepare carefully, and that you understand the skills and competencies that the assessors will be looking for.

On the day, make sure you’re dressed in a professional manner, and arrive early so you’re not flustered and rushing. Engage with your fellow candidates, listen carefully and bring a positive attitude and be ready to show us why you’re the perfect person for Standard Chartered. It’s also a brilliant opportunity to see our offices, meet some of the team and understand whether we’re the right organisation for you – don’t forget, you’re assessing us just as much as we’re assessing you.

Best of luck and we look forward to receiving your application!
