Navigating an application process can be tough, but with the right approach, you can really boost your chances of success. This article is here to guide you through some key tips and strategies to help you nail your Rothschild & Co application, from creating a standout CV and cover letter, to highlighting your unique skills and experiences.

First off, make sure you check the application open and close dates so you don’t miss the deadline and have enough time to put together a strong application. Since we recruit on a rolling basis, it’s best to apply as early as possible to give your application the best shot at being reviewed.

Depending on the role that you apply for, your application to Rothschild & Co is likely to consist of several parts, and to move on to the interview stage, each part needs to be strong.

CV

For all our roles, you’ll need to submit a CV. Make sure your CV highlights the skills and responsibilities that match the role you’re applying for. Do some research beforehand to find out what skills are important and emphasise those on your CV.

Cover Letters and/or Motivational Questions

Depending on the role, you might need to submit a Cover Letter or answer some business-specific questions about your motivation and ability to succeed in the role.

When explaining your motivation, it’s important to understand what makes Rothschild & Co unique and explain why you want to start your career with us, rather than other firms. Also, make sure you know why you want to join the specific division you’re applying for. Doing extra research to personalise your application will make you stand out, as AI generated responses are often pretty easy to spot!

When talking about why you’d be great for the role, focus on the transferable skills you’ve developed and show how these skills are relevant to a junior banker. Don’t worry if you don’t study Finance or have any direct industry experience. Any work experience, position of responsibility, or academic discipline can show a range of skills that are relevant to an entry-level role in Finance.

Stand out by giving a variety of examples of how you’ve used these skills in different situations, not just in your academics. Remember, most other candidates will be working towards a degree – so what other examples can you provide to stand out?

Online Blended Assessment

After you submit your application, depending on the role, you might be asked to complete an online blended assessment. This includes numerical reasoning questions, as well as situational and psychometric questions. It’s not timed, so take your time and answer them as honestly as possible.

Before you submit your application, it’s always important to double-check what you’re submitting. We’ve put together a quick checklist that summarises the above points for you to check against.

Final Checklist for Your Application

  1. Error-Free and Consistent CV: Make sure your CV is free from spelling errors and consistently formatted. It’s a good idea to have a friend double-check it for you.
  2. Clear Articulation of Interest: Have you clearly stated which area of the bank you are applying for and explained why?
  3. Motivation for Joining Rothschild & Co: Have you shown why you want to join Rothschild & Co specifically, rather than other companies?
  4. Varied Examples of Experience: Does your application include a variety of examples showcasing your previous work experience or positions of responsibility? Make sure these examples highlight transferable skills that show how you would excel in the role you are applying for and why.

Once you submit your application, it will then go to a member of the Early Careers Team, who will screen your application. We don’t use artificial intelligence to screen applications, so we appreciate your patience during the screening process.

With these strategies, you’ll be well on your way to standing out and securing a spot in the Early Careers Programme. Good luck and we hope to see you on one of our programmes in the future!
