Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background?
I am a student at the University of Southampton studying biological sciences. I went to high school in Oxford and my family now live in California.
What is your role and how long have you been here?
I am an Industrial placement student in the Supply chain planning team. I have been part of the team for nearly 3 weeks.
What inspired you to apply for this role/this company?
The company’s commitment to serial innovation really fascinated me as this is not seen in many pharmaceutical companies. I was eager to find a role where you work with many departments and have a direct impact on the journey of a drug product. I was really intrigued by the problem-solving aspects as well as the collaboration and communication with teams all over the world.
What has been the single most important thing you learnt so far in your job?
Never be afraid to ask questions and voice any ideas you may have.
What would a ‘normal’ day look like for someone in your role?
A typical day consists of lots of meetings within the team and touchpoints with the manufacturer. Additionally, the use of management systems (and excel) is vital in day-to-day tasks.
What do you find most interesting with the sector/industry you’re in?
The logistics of distributing products that are life changing to patients, since being in the role I have a whole new appreciation for all the different aspects of supply chain and how we have such an impact in the industry.
What is the company culture like?
The company culture encourages everyone to put ideas forward and speak up. This creates an inclusive environment where individuals can strive to put their best foot forward and succeed.
How important is diversity to you and what is your team doing in this space at the moment?
The team I work in has people from all different backgrounds and degree qualifications (not all just science based). There is a safe environment for inclusivity in the team which is very important to everyone working in it.
