Meet Olu
From the beginning of my career Cisco have always provided an excellent range of learning opportunities. As part of the grad scheme, we had multiple instructor-led trainings around Core routing and switching, soft skills, and coding to name a few. This resulted in my obtaining my CCNA prior to joining the team here in the UK.
The opportunities didn’t stop there, we’re given access to the full suite of both Cisco learning material but also material provided by external providers which covers a wide variety of topics; automation, AI, wireless networking, the list goes on and on.
The great support extends beyond the training, the welfare of employees is also emphasised across the business through various means. Inclusive Communities are a key part of the Cisco experience ensuring that employees feel seen and enabling people to form bonds with employees across the country and the world with similar interests/experiences/backgrounds. We’re also given 10 days a year which can be used to volunteer with charities, and ‘days for me’ which are extra days off given to employees allowing us to recharge.
As someone who strongly prefers learning by doing, I have really appreciated Cisco's supportive work culture, as it has enabled me to work alongside senior engineers and gain experience in areas I otherwise would not have been able to. Mistakes are not harshly punished and our requests for exposure to different areas of technology are accommodated well.
Since joining I have gone from shadowing senior engineers to leading my own technical engagements. My job has even taken me to some of the most prestigious sporting events in the world. The relationships I've built both inside and outside of Cisco have ensured I continue to develop as a professional and as an individual.
