Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background?
I was born and raised in Hong Kong and graduated from The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Business School, where I majored in Operations Management and Management.
What is your role and how long have you been at Nuveen?
I am currently a Global Client Group Rotational Analyst. I first joined Nuveen as a Summer Intern in 2022, where I stayed for 2 months, and have been working full-time as an analyst since 2023.
What inspired you to apply for this role / Nuveen?
Working at Nuveen, one of the largest asset managers in the world with USD 1.2 trillion in assets under management, has provided me with exposure to a broad range of products across various asset classes, particularly in private investments. In my role within the Global Client Group (GCG), I have the opportunity to engage with key players across the industry, including pension funds, insurance companies, and sovereign wealth funds, which has helped me build valuable connections and gain insights into different facets of the financial sector.
What has been the single most important thing you learnt so far in your job?
Be curious! Always be open and actively looking to learn more, whether it’s through asking questions, researching industry trends, or learning from the experiences of others.
What would a ‘normal’ day look like for someone in your role?
When I arrive at the office, I start by checking emails to handle any urgent client inquiries that may have come in. We typically have a team meeting in the morning to share business updates, product news, and review our project pipelines. After this, I follow up by preparing presentation decks or summarising key points from the discussion.
For client meetings, I’ll prepare by reviewing previous meeting notes and putting together decks in either physical or digital form, ensuring I’m up to speed on the client relationship. Afterwards, I’ll always make sure to document the discussion in meeting notes, share them with the team, and follow up with clients as needed.
What do you find most interesting with the sector you’re in?
Through client meetings and conferences, I’ve had the opportunity to meet people from various industries, which has helped me broaden my knowledge and gain valuable exposure within the industry.
Have you had the opportunity to get involved in any activities outside work?
I recently partnered with the Chicken Soap Organization to support single-parent families through volunteer work, which has been a rewarding experience. In addition, I’ll be joining a marathon in Hong Kong alongside my colleagues!
How did you find the application process?
The process is easy to follow and includes both technical and qualitative assessments, which help identify candidates with strong knowledge and highlights those who will be a good cultural fit.
Finally, any tips for anyone who’d like to apply for a role at Nuveen?
Stay up to date with the major trends across different asset classes. Also, try to study and understand the technical terms in the asset management industry, this will make things a lot easier to understand when you start!
