Successful recruiters are often very different
When I joined La Fosse I was a small fish in a big pond. In a fast-paced environment, it's possible to feel lost among so many consultants who are all vying to be the best at what they do. But La Fosse does a really good job of supporting you in the early days to ensure you land on your feet with the proper induction training and further learning and development all along the way. I think that, to really excel, the most important thing is to remember that there is no “wrong” or “right” way to be in this job. If you see someone succeed it doesn't mean that you should embody them precisely. The most successful consultants at La Fosse are all very good - and all chalk and cheese.
Think small
Being good at your job is not about trying to make every day a superstar day. If you want to succeed it’s about getting the little things right, consistently. That’s what the best consultants do. Follow a strict process: come in at the right time every day; listen to those around you; dot every "i"; tick every box. Each of these things are little pebbles but they add up to being a big cairn.
Don’t judge your inside by other people’s outside
It’s easy to look at the best recruiters in La Fosse and just to see their success. But you’re only seeing the tip of the iceberg, not the seven-eighths that lies underneath. All those people will have had rocky times and times when they’ve had to come back from knockbacks… The difference between them and the others is that they kept going.
Work on your internal brand
A good brand isn’t about being cut-throat. And we know this at La Fosse – it's our mission in fact – to prove that treating everyone with care and respect is the best way to grow a world-class recruitment business. So it’s about doing very simple but important things. It’s about being reliable and delivering on what you say you’re going to deliver on. It’s about going above and beyond to help other people (both within La Fosse and your clients and candidates) and to help train and develop them. It’s also about consistency: if something taints your brand it becomes very difficult to get that back. People need to know they can rely on you.
Treat everyone well
Again, it’s our founding principle. It makes commercial sense - if you treat people well they will come back to you - but it’s also the right thing to do. It's simple really, just treat everyone how you’d like to be treated yourself. At some point in our lives, all of us are going to be candidates.
