A Day in the Life of a Client Executive - Elle

What is your role and how long have you been at Hudson Sandler?

I’m a Client Executive and I’ve been at Hudson Sandler since February 2023.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background?

I’m a Modern Languages graduate from Durham Uni who joined the world of PR after being on the Amazon grad scheme for two years.

What inspired you to apply for this role/this company?

I really wanted a lot of contact with people and a job that was centred around relationship building. I knew that Hudson Sandler is a very well-established company with a great reputation within the PR industry so decided to apply!

What has been the single most important thing you learnt so far in your job?

The most important thing I’ve learnt is how to juggle conflicting external and internal deadlines and the art of prioritisation.

What would a ‘normal’ day look like for someone in your role?

The role involves quite a bit of reporting, so I start my day off by creating a ‘News of Note’ report, summarising key parts of the news of the day into an email which gets sent to the whole company. I then use this and other relevant news to create similar News of Note reports for some of my clients. While I’m doing this, I’ll send out a press release to key media about a piece of news that a client is launching.

For the rest of the morning, I’ll update ‘Work In Progress’ reports for client accounts and have internal or client calls to go through these and discuss ongoing priorities. At around lunchtime I follow up on the press release I sent out in the morning, phoning journalists to see if they would be interested in covering the news.

In the afternoon I’ll make a coverage wrap of which publications covered the news to send to the client as an end-of-day round up. Writing thought leadership or op-ed pieces is also an important part of the role, so I may spend some time in the afternoon writing up a 750-word article from the perspective of our client, that would later be published online by a journalist. I find relevant articles to summarise and put together intelligence reports for clients, as well as activity reports on what we have been doing that week.

What do you find most interesting with the sector/industry you’re in?

The best thing about agency work is the variety and the fact that you’re constantly gaining exposure to such a wide range of different sectors.

What is the company culture like?

Everyone at Hudson Sandler is so friendly! There are drinks every Thursday in the office and fun company-wide socials organised.

Finally, any tips for anyone who’d like to apply for a role at Hudson Sandler?

Read the news! Make sure you’re up to date and that you know the particularities of each of the main media outlets, as they all have their own distinct features.
