Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background?
- I am heading into my second year on the Graduate Programme at Societe Generale
- I studied Accounting and Finance at LSE and graduated in July 2023
What is your role and how long have you been here?
- I am currently an Emerging Markets trader in FX and rates and have covered both frontier markets and CEE markets
- I interned on the Emerging markets trading desk in summer 2022
- I joined the bank as a graduate in 2023 with my first rotation being in credit repo from sept 2023 to jan 2024
- I then had my second rotation in feb 2024 back to the emerging markets trading desk where I interned and I am still here.
What do you find most interesting about the sector/industry you’re in?
- Cliche but every day is different!
- On a trading desk you constantly have to monitor your own positions in expectation and/or reaction to market conditions, truly everyday comes with new challenges and new things to learn
What is the company culture like?
- At Societe Generale, graduates are given lots of responsibility. I have found this notion of learning by doing to be very apparent across both the desks I have worked on. This has meant within my first few weeks on a trading desk I was speaking with internal and external teams and executing my own trades. And within six weeks I was given complete autonomy over some currencies to trade – this is something which I doubt is seen across the street at competitor banks.
- All colleagues are willing to help despite seniority and it gives the sense that they truly do want you to thrive and succeed.
