Since starting with Brakes on the Finance Graduate Scheme, I have been fortunate enough to work in a number of different departments within in the business, gaining valuable experience and exposure within the company.
The scheme is designed so that the first three months provide a broad introduction to the finance function at Brakes at its most tangible level, in Operational Finance. Throughout this period I spent time with many different departments such as Credit Control, Banking and Rebates. These experiences allowed me to meet and learn from numerous people performing various tasks and to quickly establish an understanding of how Brakes operates and interacts with its customers.
I would highly recommend the Brakes Finance Graduate scheme to anyone passionate about performing at a high level in business.
Throughout this period I was provided with regular opportunities to discuss what I had learnt or observed with senior management and encouraged to challenge the status quo within the business. I was also given regular feedback regarding how I was performing which helped me to develop my own skills as I moved between placements.
After the initial three month induction period, I was placed on my first annual placement in the Commercial Finance team, where I am currently. I have a very broad role in the team which includes performing a number of integral tasks for the Commercial Finance team while also giving me scope to develop and showcase my own abilities. Alongside my regular tasks, I have also been fortunate to work on a number of independent projects across the business which have introduced me to a variety of departments and increased my exposure within the company.
I would highly recommend the Brakes Finance Graduate scheme to anyone passionate about performing at a high level in business. Brakes has a fantastic, friendly atmosphere and is a great place to develop the skills you learnt while studying for a degree in a practical business environment.
