An accelerated start to your career | EY UK

When Hassan joined EY in 2016 he was looking for fast career progression and the opportunity to build his client experience from the outset. Now having completed the Technology Risk graduate programme, he looks back at his career journey to date.

What attracted you to join EY?

Iwas attracted by the opportunity to gain client experience from day one on the job, which is a promise that was duly fulfilled by EY during my first year as a graduate. In addition to the prestige that comes with working at EY, the global clientele was also another deciding factor when choosing to start my career here. I have been at EY for all my professional career, that’s 4.5 years! and I can proudly say that I have worked with many of the famous name-brands in the UK and across the world.

Talk us through your career journey

I joined EY in September 2016, my first day was nerve-racking! I wanted to make sure I proved myself and ‘looked’ like I knew what I was doing. I didn’t though and thankfully EY did a fantastic job to support me - I was assigned a counsellor from day one and my team were so accommodating.

I’ve had a steady progression from first being coached by a senior, then leading client meetings, coaching one graduate to now managing a team of 5-10 in a Manager role.  I feel my progression at EY has been quick and strong, this is due to the support I’ve received. I am now an acting Manager, after being at EY for only 4 years.  The vast number of training resources at my disposal is immense. I’ve especially been able to use tools such as EY badges to further expand on the skills I’ve built from my client engagements.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

How friendly everyone is! You’re sometimes told how scary a Big 4 firm can be. While I can’t vouch for other firms, working at EY has been filled with good laughs and great people. The most enjoyable part of my role is working in highly effective and fun teams, helping solve problems of well-known clients. My proudest moment so far has been completely revamping a global client’s data governance practices, and seeing the rewards from this, as well as receiving excellent feedback.

During the pandemic we've been keeping up to date via daily chats and monthly socials, creating a sense of togetherness. EY’s culture is built around its people. A lot of emphasis is placed on you and the team; how any firm should be!

What advice would you give someone trying to decide whether to join EY?

Consider joining EY if you want an accelerated start to your career. Our people culture above all will make you feel welcome from day one, as well as support you throughout your career journey.
