What does a typical weekday look like for a summer intern at Redington? Well, let us find out.
Meet Isis Anna Ciurleo. Each day of the internship can differ, but in this blog, Isis gives us an insight into what a typical day working at Redington was like and provides some advice for students who want to join the internship programme.
What an adventure my time at Redington has been!
Having spent six weeks interning in the Manager Research Team (MRT), no two days have been the same. The first week was filled with educational sessions about each of Redington’s different branches. Ranging from workshops in Excel skills to the ins and outs of private markets, it was clear from the start that the learning curve would be steep. And all of us interns were ready for it!
With training week over, we met our teams and promptly got into desk-based work. Spending time with the equity, fixed income and private markets team, my activities spanned from navigating Bloomberg to creating Excel databases. With the day becoming action-packed with tasks and catch-ups, I had to be sure to organise my day, enjoying the autonomy and responsibility of work.
I would make sure I was in before 9am to read market news updates and check my Teams messages in case there were any ad hoc tasks to get stuck into. In the morning, I would work with the sustainability team’s intern on our joint ESG project, before turning to the private markets database I had been tasked with before lunch. I always had the peace of mind that help and guidance were on hand, with my colleagues only a desk away if I needed them.
Lunch was the perfect time to schedule catchups. Reaching out to different members of Redington, I learnt how interconnected the business of investment consulting is while understanding the importance of my role in the wider consulting ecosystem. Feeling the buzz in the kitchen during lunchtime was something so distinct; the action of the ping pong table in full swing while the interns would be debating who bought the best chicken sandwich!
After lunch, I would dedicate time to my convertible bond project. Being a challenging and dynamic asset class, I navigated numerous databases and websites to produce a presentation on the active manager universe which I presented to the MRT team in my final week. My project provided a learning path I never thought I would have gained when starting on my first day and I was so happy to be producing research that was of meaning and value to my team.
I can honestly say each day when I got on the tube home, I felt an enormous sense of satisfaction and pride working for Redington. Thank you to everyone for this wonderful opportunity and making this summer unforgettable.
