Couch to Coder, our summer coding camp, is the perfect course for all students and graduates who want to learn the fundamentals of coding and software development.
Back for its second edition, Couch to Coder will take you from complete beginner to confident coder in just five weeks. With weekly sessions created by an expert Bright Network tech trainer and practical tasks to complete, you’ll gain valuable new skills, learn the possibilities of a career in tech and walk away with your very own website.
And the best part? It's completely free!
On top of five weeks of learning, we’re also hosting an exclusive insights week with live sessions as part of the final week of the course, where you’ll have the chance to hear from leading technologists working at top brands. They’ll share their journey, talk about their experiences and answer your questions on how to kickstart your career in tech
Whether you dream of a career in tech or simply want to upskill and explore the world of coding, Couch to Coder will help you build the solid foundational skills you need to take your next step. Spaces on the course are limited, so submit your application as soon as possible to avoid missing out.

We believe everyone has a place in code, so Couch to Coder is open to all students and graduates who want to learn more about the tech industry. You don’t need to be studying a ‘related’ degree, or have any previous tech know-how, you just need to be ready to deep dive into the fundamentals of coding and software development.

Week 1: Lay the Foundation
Dive into the fundamentals of good HTML and learn how you’ll use it to build the foundations of a scaleable website
Week 2: Utilising AI when Coding
Explore advanced HTML concepts such as forms, links and tables to improve the content of your website, plus understand the dos and don’ts of using AI to enhance your coding journey
Week 3: The Fundamentals of CSS and Design
Discover the fundamentals of CSS and learn the importance of The Box Model, plus how to design your website whilst keeping the styling maintainable and scaleable
Week 4: Dive into CSS Layouts
From FlexBox to Grid, learn everything you need to know about CSS Layouts. We’ll introduce you to JavaScript so you can add dynamic behaviour to your site, empowering you to create responsive layouts
Week 5: Building your Website PLUS Insights Week
Put everything you’ve learnt into practice to build and design your very own website from scratch AND hear from leading technologists at top employers in across sessions in our Insights Week

Do I need any coding experience?
None at all!
Is Couch to Coder free?
Absolutely! Like all our events and opportunities, Couch to Coder is a completely free course.
What time will the course take place?
We’ll release weekly Couch to Coder sessions on Tuesday at 3pm, starting on Tuesday 13th August. Please note all timings correspond with British Summer Time (BST).
Do I have to watch the sessions as soon as they're released?
No! Although the sessions are released every Tuesday at 3pm, you can watch the sessions and complete the assigned tasks in your own time. You'll have until the following Tuesday to complete your work, giving you plenty of time to get everything submitted.
Where is Couch to Coder being held?
Couch to Coder is a virtual programme. You'll be sent everything you need once your application has been accepted.
Are there tasks to complete?
Yes, you'll be given tasks to complete after each session. Once you've submitted your tasks, we’ll provide best-in-class examples and solutions, giving you the opportunity to learn what you did well and where you could have improved.
How should I prepare for the course?
We'll send you a pack ahead of the first session with key resources for you to look through to prepare. Beyond reading the pre-course materials, there's nothing else you need to do. Just come with an eagerness to learn and any questions you might have for your trainer!
I can no longer take part in the course. Who should I tell?
Please email us to let us know if you can no longer attend as soon as possible, so we can offer your place to someone else. Failure to inform us of any changes could result in you becoming ineligible for future Bright Network events.
